The Songs Vin Played for 09/14/1997

There are three essential Commandments:

Respect The Elders.

Embrace The New.

Encourage The Impractical and Improbable, Without Bias.

These are the songs I played on WNEW-FM / NY on "IDIOT'S DELIGHT" 9/14/97,

another working day in the captious world.

PAUL AUSTER, the writer whose latest book is a non-fiction work entitled "Hand

To Mouth," was my guest for about an hour. Auster — poet, film maker,

"The New York Trilogy," "The Music Of Chance," "In The Country Of Last

Things," "Moon Palace," "Leviathan," and many other wonderful books.

DAVID BYRNE & SELENA God's Child

served as musical director)

BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB Chan Chan

(a new Ry Cooder project with some wonderful Cuban musicians, due out soon on

Nonesuch)

DAVID BYRNE Burnt By The Sun

DAVID BYRNE was my guest for the next few hours; conversation and recorded

music only, no live performance. We concentrated almost entirely on music

from his recent album "Feelings." He brought some other things to play,

including a couple of unreleased tracks that were recorded during the

"Feelings" sessions but were left off the album.

DAVID BYRNE They Are In Love

TERESA STRATAS Youkali Tango

JUNE TABOR Go Away From My Window

June Tabor's new album, "Aleyn" in on Green Linnet Records; both of the above

songs are from it.

Rhino Records has just released a 5-CD RAY CHARLES box set entitled "Genius &

Soul: The 50th Anniversary Collection" which provides a wonderful overview of

the man's entire recording career. From it I played:

RAY CHARLES What'd I Say Parts 1 & 2

RAY CHARLES I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town

RAY CHARLES Busted

RAY CHARLES Georgia

RAY CHARLES How Long Has This Been Going On?

RAY CHARLES Yesterday
