There are three essential Commandments:

     Respect The Elders.
     Embrace The New.
     Encourage The Impractical and Improbable,
     Without Bias.

These are the songs I played on
Vin Scelsa's IDIOT'S DELIGHT®
    on  102.7 WNEW-FM New York on 10/1/00

“Once in a while you will fall
But it’s all ... in the game ....”

    –  Carl Sigman, “It’s All In The Game” (1958)

I opened the show by noting the death of Tin Pan Alley songwriter/lyricist Carl Sigman who died on 9/26/00 at the age of 91.  One of his most well known songs is “Enjoy Yourself (It’s Later Than You Think” – I searched high and low for the famous Guy Lombardo recording of it, but came up empty.  I’ll get one by next week.  (He also wrote “Where Do I Begin” – the theme for the film “Love Story” – a song which must be in millions of music boxes around the world!)   I played several of the diverse songs he had a hand in creating.

JACK McDUFF   Walking The Dog   (opening theme)

“THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD”   Television Theme Song   (singer not credited)
TOMMY EDWARDS   It’s All In The Game

RYAN ADAMS – guest – solo performance and conversation

http://www.bloodshotrecords.com/newreleases.php3

RYAN ADAMS   (CD)   Oh My Sweet Carolina   (with Emmylou Harris)
WHISKEYTOWN   Midway Park

At this point in Ryan’s visit I invited his manager into the studio.  Frank Callari was a guy who used to hang out with me and Thom Morrera back in the late 70s - early 80s, late at night, on the old musical WNEW-FM.  We would have these long rambling esoteric conversations as part of “The Butch and The Brick Affair” for which we each had alter egos – Morrera was Monsieur LeBrique, Frank was Andre Faux Pas, and I was Nino Nesci (which means “know nothing” in Italian).  (Morrera also was known as Father Thom; I was Bayonne Butch!)  Frank and I haven’t seen or talked to each other since 1982!  He’s been living in Nashville for years.  It was a wonderful reunion!  In addition to Ryan he also manages Lucinda Williams, Terry Radigan and others ... and managed both The Mavericks and Marilyn Manson at the same time!

RYAN ADAMS   (live)   Just Like A Whore   (new song)

NOTE:  I'm not able to write the extensive notes I used to.  Instead I've put web links to certain artist sites.

There is finally an Idiot's Delight t-shirt!
I designed it myself.  It's simple, low key and to the point.  It's short-sleeved, in heather gray, with very dark blue (almost black) lettering.   The "3 essential commandments" are on the front and the show name is on the back, all quite unobtrusive, with no corporate or commercial logos anywhere.   The shirt is only available through World Hunger Year (it was a Hungerthon '99  premium), for a $50 donation to that fine organization.  For further information, call WHY at (212) 629-8850 or visit <http://www.hungerthon.org> or <http://www.worldhungeryear.org>.

NEW FEATURE:  Check out the Idiot's Delight Audio Archives, where we'll be storing current guest
appearances as well as dipping into the past for guest segments from some of my favorite shows.  We’re
limited as to space, so each guest segment will only remain up for a few weeks; and space limitations also mean that the segments are available in mono, not stereo.  Please alert your friends in other parts of the world that there's now a way to listen to some portion of Idiot's Delight!!
The link is: <http://www.wnew.com/audio/scelsa>

I now have a new Internet-only free form show!  “Vin Scelsa's Live At Lunch”!!  http://www.liveatlunch.com  is heard live from my home studio Tuesday thru Thursday from noon to 3 PM ET (and repeated immediately from 3 PM to 6 PM ET so that it is on at noon for the West Coast).  In addition, each show is archived for several months and is available to listen to on demand.
