The Songs Vin Played for 10/20/1996
There are three essential Commandments:
Respect The Elders.
Embrace The New.
Encourage The Impractical and Improbable, Without Bias.

mostly film themes by the late Henry Mancini. The group features Matt Brubeck
(one of Dave Brubeck's sons) on bass and cello as well as members of the bands
of Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, and Charlie Hunter.)
(show ended approximately 3:00 A.M.)
(PLEASE NOTE: I type this list up early every Monday morning when I get home
from the show. Sometimes I make mistakes -- leave things out, spell or type
incorrectly, or mis-identify something. (By the way. "Oranj" is not a typo,
that's the way they spell it!) Last week I made a mistake that many of you
caught at either the WNEW web site or on the "vin-dig" e-mail digest. It
bears correcting. The name of the Tom Waits' song I played last Sunday is
"Downtown Train" -- not "Downtown Girl". I played Black 47's "Brooklyn
Girls" right before it and just wrote the title down incorrectly in my
notebook. (The Waits' song has Brooklyn girls in it, but they ride the
Downtown Train and do not give the song its title.) Anyhow, by the time I
typed up the list, my brain and fingers were working on fifteen cups of radio
station coffee and it's a wonder any of it is accurate! Thanks to all for
catching the mistake.)

SCHEDULE OF UPCOMING GUESTS:
NOTE: GREG TROOPER was scheduled to be a guest last night (10/20) and I don't
think I ever mentioned on the air why he wasn't on. He and his band were
scheduled to play an outdoor gig in New Jersey Sunday afternoon that was
canceled because of the wet weather, so they never came up from Nashville.
10/27 ALLEN GINSBERG; AL ANDERSON
11/3 KURT VONNEGUT; KRIS McKAY
11/10 DONOVAN; ORLEANS
11/17 MARTI JONES (w/Don Dixon)
11/24 HUNGERTHON
(This year my portion of this annual event will be an
all-request-for-your-donations-to-WHY Rent Party; no live guests. Here's your
chance to do what is otherwise, at any other time of year, impossible: get me
to play a request! But I will do so for your contributions to WORLD HUNGER
YEAR. So, come up with some good ones as well as the necessary bucks!)
12/8 DAN BERN
12/15 MADELEINE PEYROUX
12/22 GREG BROWN
